The best Italian extra virgin olive oil in the world? Coratina olive oil from Oilalà [updated to Jan. 2021]

Our Coratina olive oil is the best Italian extra virgin olive oil in the world, in the international “WREVOO” ranking.

We are in 22nd place in the world ranking, but we have the honour of being the first Italian olive oil in the ranking.

In 2018, our Coratina olive oil was positioned in the top 50 and only after 2 years, it became the best Italian EVOO (acronym for extra virgin olive oil) in the world, climbing more than 20 positions. This testimony of our tireless pursuit of perfection and improvement. Day after day we improve the quality of our work by transforming the olives of our land into the precious “green gold” that we produce with so much care and love.

1) What is “WREVOO” and why is it so important?

The EVOO World Ranking is an international non-profit ranking created to promote the most awarded extra virgin olive oils in the world.

Every year, for more than ten years, the EVOOWORLD RANKING Organization has drawn up the world ranking of the most awarded olive oils, to allow consumers and experts to know which olive oils are the best internationally.

The extra virgin olive oils that have obtained the best scores in competitions held around the world during the year join this ranking.

Let’s try to understand it better. The methodology used is very intuitive.

The competitions are sorted by importance in the world, by area, number of samples, number of participating countries and impact in the main consumption areas. Each competition has a score ranging from 10 to 5.

Each prize level is the same in all competitions:

  • First places earn 8.00 points
  • The second places 6.50 points
  • Third places 5.00 points
  • Subsequent levels drop by 1 point each.
  • The “Special Awards” get an additional point.

The final score of the year is obtained by adding the score obtained in each single competition calculated as follows:

value expressed in points of each single competition X score of the prize obtained in that competition.

Joining this world ranking means joining the Olympus of extra virgin olive oils … then joining it as the best Italian extra virgin olive oil has a completely different flavour!

2) What are the most authoritative prizes won by Coratina Oilalà?

3) What makes our Coratina olive oil the best Italian extra virgin olive oil in the world?

The unique taste

As the name itself suggests, Monocultivar Coratina is an EVO oil obtained from 100% Coratina olives, a single fine variety of olives that gives the olive oil a broader and more valuable organoleptic profile. Coratina, a typical native olive of the Apulian area, gives life to an intense fruity olive oil with great personality, with a rich and complex aroma, with hints of fresh tones of freshly cut grass, artichoke and green tomato. In closing it gives a harmonious sensation of bitterness and inimitable spicy.

Cold extracted in a very short time

From the moment of the olive harvest, which takes place between October and November, to the pressing in a single continuous cycle cold pressed oil mill (25 °) only 6 hours pass to guarantee the freshness of the product and the conservation of its organoleptic properties.

High content of polyphenols and tocopherols

Polyphenols and tocopherols contained in very high quantities in our olive oil, are natural antioxidants and represent a real panacea for our body: powerful anti-inflammatories, which help to prevent a long list of diseases, especially cardiovascular due to the high presence of vegetable fatty acids and they also delay the aging of cells.

These same polyphenols, so beneficial to humans, are also useful to the olive oil itself, in fact they contribute to its natural preservation without chemical preservatives, preserving it from oxidation and guaranteeing a longer life without changing the organoleptic profile.

Very low acidity

EVO oil (acronym for extra virgin olive oil) is the most prized of the olive oils and is the direct product of the pressing of the olives. Our EVO oil has a free acidity that never exceeds 0.2% (we are talking about grams of oleic acid per 100 grams of olive oil) well below the legal limit of 0.8%.

The Panel test, that is the examination thanks to which the organoleptic characteristics of the olive oil are established, is free from defects and has fruity, bitter and spicy notes that vary according to the territory of origin of the olives and the climate, which greatly effects on plant health and fruit growth and ripening.

All these factors have brought our Coratina extra virgin olive oil among the best 22 in the world!

Conclusion

The moment even one drop of this olive oil meets the palate, the taster begins to live that exceptional experience that we have so painstakingly and meticulously prepared for him. From the beginning. The family land, with the energy that runs through it; cultivation, done with love; careful collection, processing, packaging.

And when the juries of the most prestigious international awards in the world live this special sensory experience, all this translates into an official confirmation of its preciousness. From the United States to Japan, via China and Greece, Oilalà olive oil has won medals and prizes in every corner of the planet. For us it is the legitimacy of what we have been pursuing for three generations.
